14 AUTONOMOUS AND INNOVATIVE BICYCLE COUNTERS ON THE CYCLE PATHS OF THE DEPARTMENT 34 IN FRANCE
In 2021, 14 bicycle counters were installed on the cycle paths of the Hérault department. These counting devices make it possible to measure the number of people using the cycle paths in order to quantify and analyse new mobility trends.
The device is simple: a bicycle counter from the company Tag Master, self-sufficient in energy thanks to a square metre of Wattway circulatory photovoltaic pavement, an innovation from the Colas group. Tag Master's bicycle counters collect volumetric data on cyclist traffic on dedicated lanes without intrusive sensors. Mostly installed in energy-starved areas, where access to the electricity grid is complex and/or costly, they are self-sufficient in energy, thanks to Wattway Pack. This renewable energy production solution, a real autonomous electrical outlet, consists of a circulatory photovoltaic panel positioned directly on the cycle track and a battery that stores the energy. The whole system is visually discreet, ensures daily supervision of the system and prevents any vandalism or theft of the solution, once installed on the ground, while remaining circulable. Wattway Pack is an increasingly common solution for making roadside equipment autonomous in the regions: monitoring cameras, low-energy lighting at singular points, bicycle charging stations, etc. The Hérault department is the first department to use Wattway Pack technology for bicycle metering.
Other autonomous bicycle counters will be installed over the next two years to monitor the territory's main bicycle paths.
